JAMES G. MARTIN

Mr. Martin is the
firm’s Business Litigation Practice Group Leader.
He concentrates
his practice in the areas of white-collar and
criminal defense,
corporate governance and compliance, and
complex business
litigation. Prior to joining the firm, he served as
a federal
prosecutor for 21 years, serving most recently as the
United States
Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri. As a
federal
prosecutor, Mr. Martin was successful in the prosecution of
white collar
crime, public corruption, tax, and drug and gun cases.
His major
corporate fraud cases included: Chrysler Motor’s odometer fraud
case; Emerson Electric’s government fraud case; the CEO of Blue
Cross/Blue Shield of Missouri; four top executives at Charter
Communications; Edward Jones and the
recovery of $75
million; and Gambro Healthcare and the recovery of $350 million.
His major public
corruption cases included: the fraud case of Virvus Jones,
Comptroller for the City of St. Louis; the bribery case of Robert
Young, IV, St. Louis County Councilman; the voter fraud case of
Sorkis Webbe, Jr.; numerous police officers in various corruption
cases; and a collection of lawyers and judges in the Missouri
Second Injury Fund case. In 2006, Mr. Martin served as Co-Counsel
for the second largest Top Business Verdict and Settlement in the
state of Missouri.
In 1999 and 2000,
he spent a year and a half working with former Senator John
Danforth in the Office of Special Counsel serving as Director of
Investigative Operations where he supervised 12 attorneys and 38
federal agents investigating the allegations pertaining to the
1993 confrontation between law enforcement and the Branch
Davidians in Waco, Texas. Mr. Martin is honored in the 2007
edition of Chambers USA, and commentators remark that he is a
leading lawyer in white collar crime and government
investigations.. Additionally, he is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America 2008 for corporate governance and
compliance law and in 2007, he was selected as one of the No.
1-ranked lawyers by Missouri Lawyers Weekly in
its first annual
.Missouri’s Best. competition in the .Lawyer if the SEC Calls.
category. He is licensed to practice in Illinois and Missouri.
