On Sunday, September 5, 2021, at approximately 9:28 P.M., the East St. Louis Police Department responded to the Roosevelt Homes located at 1328 N. 44th Street, East St. Louis, IL for a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, officers located the gunshot victim who was identified as 3 year-old Calyia E. Stringer. Stringer was transported to a St. Louis area hospital where she succumbed to her injury on September 7, 2021.
Preliminary investigation indicates occupant(s) of a dark colored sedan began shooting at a crowd of people standing outside Building 47 in the Roosevelt Homes. At least one individual returned fire from the group of people. During the exchange of gunfire, a bullet entered Building 47 and struck Stringer. Following the shooting, the suspect(s) fled the area.
